Welcome! We are thrilled that you’re joining us in our efforts to maintain and enhance the arts in the Heartbeat Creative District with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. Also known as the Hastings Art & Beat District, the district encompasses the historic downtown area and is bounded by Burlington Avenue, Eastside Boulevard, 7th Street, and the railroad. As of November 2024, the Heartbeat District is a Certified Creative District and joins a statewide network of creative districts led by the Nebraska Arts Council.

This certification has enabled us to receive a $10,000 grant which will be used towards marketing efforts, translation of the strategic plan, and administrative efforts for the development of creative projects.

There are many ways you can help!

  1. Join the PULSE planning group: Without PULSE, there’s no Heartbeat! Partners Undertaking Local Solutions for Expression (PULSE) is the multi-faceted partnership created to develop and organize the Heartbeat Creative District. Join City representatives, business owners, artists, and other city leaders by attending meetings and gathering data to bring the ideas from the strategic plan to fruition!

  1. Subscribe to and watch this page for more information about upcoming district events, including public meetings, volunteer opportunities, public art projects and/or events in the area. Additionally, keep an eye on this page for future surveys and opportunities to share your thoughts and ideas.

    The Creative District is a project that is intended to support the arts in Downtown Hastings.  The boundaries are generally the railroad to 7th and Burlington to Eastside.

    A SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis allows you to look at your community as a whole.  To develop a successful plan to get you where you want to be, you must first have an honest, realistic picture of where you are.  Each person may have a different perspective and we'd like to know YOURS!

    The feedback from this SWOT analysis will be used to inform the Strategic Plan for the Creative District.  For more information, contact Ember Batelaan (ebatelaan@cityofhastings.org).

    (English) May 2024 Heartbeat Creative District Survey

    The Heartbeat Creative District Survey will run from May 1st to May 31st, 2024.  This survey will take approximately 15 minutes and is comprised of 23 questions about you and your opinion of Downtown and specifically the art in Downtown.  Downtown is defined as the area generally bounded by Lexington Avenue, Kansas Avenue, railroad tracks, and 4th Street.  Please note, responses to unsubmitted surveys will only be saved for logged-in participants.  The feedback from this survey will be used to inform the Strategic Plan for the Creative District.  Participants have the opportunity to enter a raffle upon survey completion.  Winners will be notified in June.  For more information, contact Ember Batelaan (ebatelaan@cityofhastings.org) or the BID Director (bid@hastingsdowntown.com).

    La Encuesta Heartbeat Creative District se realizará a partir del 1 de mayo hasta el 31 de mayo de 2024. Esta encuesta tomará aproximadamente 15 minutos y consiste de 23 preguntas sobre ti y tu opinión sobre el Downtown y específicamente el arte en el Downtown. El centro se define como el área generalmente delimitada por Lexington Avenue, Kansas Avenue, BNSF Railroad y la calle 4.
