We've won the Gold!

We're excited to announce that we've earned the Gold rating from the Nebraska Library Commission accreditation process. This process is meant to encourage excellent library service and sets the standards for the offered services. The Gold rating gives HPL the eligibility for State Aid and to apply for various grants and means that HPL meets the highest standard of library service. More about the process can be found at nlc.nebraska.gov.

The accreditation application includes a Community Needs Response Plan, or strategic plan. With the results from the October 2023 community survey and your responses to our Engage surveys, we were able to develop a plan with three priorities and action steps for each. Read the plan below or find it on the Library Advisory Board page under the How Do I... tab on our website, www.hastingslibrary.us.

Strategic Plan 2025-2030

We've already started working on the most requested change from the community survey: programs for seniors. Coming up in 2025, Echoes of the Heartland returns with 12 more Humanities Nebraska speakers. Keep an eye on our online calendar for details and dates, Events Calendar. In 2024, we started Senior Planet, teaching two ten-lesson courses to 20 seniors about computer basics and safety. We are working on training more staff to offer more classes in 2025. If you have questions or are interested in joining Senior Planet, call us at 402-461-2346 and ask for Sam Rundle.

We want to thank our amazing staff for working hard to achieve this rating and give Hastings one of the best libraries in the state! And thank you to all of our patrons for making our library a staple of our community!

Share your feedback on the plan below! And don't forget to tell us why you think HPL deserves a gold star!
