Downtown Hastings is geographically located in the center of Hastings and has been actively revitalizing spaces downtown including producing upper-level housing, and hosting various events. The ReThink Our Streets Project is designed to experiment with improvements to the streets and public spaces of Downtown in a quick and fun way. By spending the next nine months dreaming of what our streets can look like and then quickly making those dreams a reality through temporary, attractive, and safe improvements, programs, and events; Downtown businesses, community leaders, and City staff can learn what works and then design and implement permanent features in the upcoming years.

City Hall Renovation

In June, 2023, City Council debated whether they should repair, renovate, build new, or relocate City Hall. In September, 2023, City Council made the decision to renovate City Hall for approximately $8.2 million dollars.

The Creative District project is intended to develop a creative district, recognized by the Nebraska Arts Council, in Downtown Hastings to promote the arts. This program was established to utilize the arts as an economic driver to support communities in Nebraska.
