Project would reconstruct approximately 2.38 miles of U.S. Highway 6 with a new 3-lane concrete section. Project will include a roundabout at the intersection of Elm Avenue and South Street. Financing for the project is an 80/20 split between the NDOT and City of Hastings.

  • Share I haven't been to a meeting and I'm fairly new to town, but I was wondering what the catalyst was to make these changes? Have there been a lot of accidents?     The Hastings Southeast Project, reconstruction of Hwy 6 from Showboat Blvd to J Street, has been discussed in some form or another since the 1980’s.  The condition of the roadway has been the driver of the project along with the intersections of Hwy 6 with Elm Ave and South St.  These intersections would not meet today’s design standards  because of the angle those roadways intersect the highway.  The roundabout at the intersection of Elm Ave and South Street will replace these intersections.  The roundabout provides more continuous and efficient operations through the intersection, as well as improved safety benefits by reducing conflict points.
