One time it was unavailable because someone rented the facility - which wasn't posted anywhere. One time ,this past Tuesday the pool was unavailable because of an accident which was posted and saved me a trip, and tonight the person at the admission desk told me that lap swim is only on Monday night -which wasted my trip and screwed with my schedule. So what is the schedule for lap swimming in the evenings? Whatever the schedule is, please make it clear. I looked at the website again and read the schedule as Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7-8 p.m. Please advise. on Facebook Share Since Aquacourt opened, I have tried to lap swim in the evenings on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7-8 p.m. I have appreciated the opportunity to do this. MLP asked 5 months agoWe only have lap swimming on Monday evenings because of swim lessons on the other evenings. The messaging at https://www.cityofhastings.org/parks/hastings-aquacourt was a little confusing previously. Hopefully it is easier to understand now. We apologize for the miscommunication.

Jacinda asked 8 months agoUnfortunately, even with the heaters the restrooms would still close during the winter because they are not insulated. The heaters were installed for us to open restrooms earlier in the spring and not have to worry about a cold spell. The restrooms with heaters opened more than a week earlier than last year.

Share Do city leaders recognize the extremely large problems we have here with drugs and mental health? When I have asked about this in the past, it just gets pushed on to the state. Isn't there something we could do as a city to address the problems and help people? We only have one small program in town and no halfway houses (only 3/4 way houses). The schools refuse to address the issue and offer help to kids. Can a task force be appointed to address these issues? on Facebook Share Do city leaders recognize the extremely large problems we have here with drugs and mental health? JEN asked 9 months agoAs city officials, we recognize the present and growing issues of drug addiction and mental health concerns. Law enforcement officers in Hastings interact with individuals affected by addiction as well as mental illness, but our level of government is presently not designed or situated to deal with these types of problems. Treatment is not a City of Hastings function. However, state agencies and local nonprofit organizations are actively working on the issues. A local nonprofit substance abuse treatment organization is working alongside the State of Nebraska; local, regional and state organizations to enhance their services into a full continuum of care, hoping to provide services starting later this year. This initiative would be separate from the City of Hastings. This collaboration aims to provide a comprehensive range of care options for individuals grappling with substance abuse and mental health issues. By expanding these services, the community will benefit from improved access to support and treatment resources. The hope is this initiative would contribute to reducing drug use in the area by addressing the root causes of addiction and providing effective interventions to individuals in need, but again it is not a City of Hastings initiative.

Linda asked 9 months agoWe believe you are concerned about truck traffic on the section of East Second Street through downtown (from Burlington Avenue or U.S. Highway 34/281 to Minnesota Avenue). That section of Second Street is narrow for trucks. It doesn’t seem to attract through truck traffic because it really doesn’t take a truck to a through route or destination. We asked Google Maps to give us directions from Seventh Street & Burlington Avenue to east U.S. Highway 6 - Google Maps recommended using South Street east of Burlington Avenue. We’ll look at traffic on East Second Street and even consider putting out counters that differentiate between cars and trucks.

Zowen85 asked 9 months agoSidewalks may not have been required when 12th Street was developed between Baltimore and Marian avenues. Now, city code requires sidewalks to be installed for all new developments. The maintenance and installation of sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner per City Code. The City of Hastings is also looking at implementing improvements along West 12th Street to make that road safer for motorists and pedestrians. The 12th Street Corridor Study was presented at the November 20, 2023 City Council Work Session and included a number of possible projects to improve 12th Street.
